Battle Royale (Batoru Rowairu): (Japan-2000)

| by Alex DiGiovanna | Movie Reviews | View Comments

In a style that only the Japanese could bring to fruition, comes this bloody, engaging, and interesting take on the “fight for survival” concept. The movie, put simply, is about high school delinquents who are placed on an island and are required, by the Battle Royale Law, to kill each other within three days until only one survives. The reason: the Japanese economy has pretty much collapsed, students are boycotting school, and unemployment has skyrocketed. Read more »

Where The Wild Things Are

| by Alex DiGiovanna | Trailers | View Comments

I met Scott Mednick before he announced both Where the Wild Things Are and TMNT. He said to be prepared for some great films coming out later this year. After that discussion with him my expectations for these films skyrocketed. That’s why when the trailer was released for Where the Wild Things Are I flipped out with ecstatic child-like enjoyment. The reason: the trailer made me feel like a kid and I simply found it to be one of the most well edited trailers I have ever seen… Read more »

Silver Streak Review

| by Alex DiGiovanna | Movie Reviews | View Comments

A simple and cheesy movie from the 70’s, specifically 1976, Silver Streak is an easily forgettable comedy that paired Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder up for the first time. G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

| by Brandon Kruter | Movie Reviews | View Comments

G.I.-Joe-The-Rise-of-CobraI went into this movie having read rumors that the test audience rated gave this movie the worst rating in Paramount’s history resulting in the director, Stephen Sommers, being fired; then not actually not being fired. As I mentioned in my introduction, when I watch a movie I do my best to forget about anything I had heard about it so that I can decide for myself how I feel about the movie. When the movie was all said and done, I was surprised with what I had just seen.

Sunshine Cleaning Review

sunshine_cleaners

Sunshine Cleaning – This movie didn’t get a lot of press, at least not to my knowledge as I had never heard of the movie or seen any trailers or commercials for it. Usually when I come across a movie like this I revert to a B or C movie watching state of mind; looking for times when the acting makes something serious funny, or when the plot gets so ridiculous it loses any sense it might have had. With Sunshine Cleaning, however, as soon as it started I knew I was in for a treat. Read more »
