Invictus trailer for South Africa Unification

| by Alex DiGiovanna | Trailers | Comments

Thank you Clint Eastwood! Someone decided to make a film about an extremely important piece of South African history and it stars two of my favorite actors, Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. Freeman plays Nelson Mandela who is trying to unify the country through the use of Rugby and in doing so wants Francois Pienaar’s (Matt Damon) help. One of the things I love about this movie is the use of my favorite sport, rugby, to help unify a very segregated, post apartheid country. So, if you like rugby, Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, Matt Damon, South Africa or good movies then you need to check out the trailer to Invictus after the jump. Read more »

Matt Damon’s ‘Green Zone’ trailer

| by Alex DiGiovanna | Trailers | Comments

What we have here is an action movie based in Iraq starring none other than Matt Damon (Bourne Identity, Syriana). The trailer is filmed and cut in a style much like that of the Bourne series, which, if I say so myself, is effin sweet. The Green Zone is a political thriller, directed by Paul Greengrass (United 93, The Bourne Ultimatum), that appears to retain the aspects of the Bourne trilogy that America loved so much: intelligence, action, and suspense. I’m not really sure if there’s a political agenda with the release of this movie but either way I hope it’s great. There haven’t been many popular movies about Iraq thus far, The Hurt Locker might be an exception, but this could help bridge the gap between the political drama and an Iraqi action movie. Check out the trailer along with a little more after the jump.

The plot: Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller is a rogue U.S. Army officer who must hunt through covert and faulty intelligence hidden on foreign soil before war escalates in an unstable region.

The movie was inspired by Rajiv Chandrasekaran’s book Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraq’s Green Zone

Also, for those that don’t know what the Green Zone is I have provided a wikipedia excerpt to expand your knowledge on the subject. The Green Zone is the common name for the International Zone of Iraq— a 10-square-kilometer (3.8-square-mile) area in central Baghdad, Iraq, that was the center of the Coalition Provisional Authority and remains the center of the international presence in the city.

The Expendables trailer and The Ultimate Action Movie Cast

| by Alex DiGiovanna | Trailers | Comments

This is definitely THE ULTIMATE ACTION MOVIE EVER MADE!!!!!

To put it frankly this movie is going to kick major ass regardless of how shitty the story is. Directed, written, and starring Stallone is the story of a “group of mercenaries that head to South America to overthrow a dictator (imdb).” That may not grab your attention, but this cast lineup sure will: Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Randy Couture, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Terry Crews, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Eric Roberts, Danny Trejo, Brittany Murphy, Dolph Lundgren, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. If that cast isn’t appetizing enough for your action movie taste buds then someone should probably kick you in the nuts for lacking the appropriate levels of testosterone. Anti-Christ is An Intriguing Tromp Through Hell (Review 2)

| by Kristian Tuinzing | Movie Reviews | Comments

AntiChrist

I had never seen a Lars von Trier film before Antichrist, nor had I heard of the cult following or generally twisted context of his work. So when I started watching Antichrist, it only took the first 20 seconds to know I was in for a ride. Literally my thought train as the movie started went as so: “Hmmm, mmmmhmmm, mmmhmmmmm…Oh, well then. Let’s party.” You’ll know it when you see it. So I was on to my first von Trier film.

The Football Factory (Review)

| by Alex DiGiovanna | Movie Reviews | Comments

Did you love Green Street Hooligans?  That’s funny ‘cause I did too!  I loved the whole notion of football firms and learning about the underworld of English football fighting.  That is why I decided to watch The Football Factory (UK) (2004), a movie about a Chelsea firm (gang) and the crazy characters that comprise it.  Going into the movie I didn’t really know much about it except that I wanted a load of good fight scenes.  Unfortunately I was wrong.  Granted there was one rather intense fight against Milwall near the end, the others were more toned down yet realistic at the same time.  Needless to say the lack of fighting is not a reason to shun away from this film.

Pulp Fiction Remains A Classic

| by Kristian Tuinzing | Movie Reviews | Comments

There are not many things I know for certain, but whenever I am asked what my favorite movie is, I instantly say “Pulp Fiction.” Quentin Tarantino is in my opinion one of the most talented people in film. His films all vary in quality and direction, but all are some of the best ever made. Pulp Fiction stands out because of its profound impact on so many aspects of popular culture and the careers of several talented actors and actresses. Who knows how many films it influenced, but it is immediately obvious to anyone that Pulp Fiction will always shine like a precious stone.
