Trailer for the Dirty Danish Prison Drama, “R”

As most of you already know from prior posts, I love prison dramas because when they are good, they are really f*cking good. Un Prophete and Celda 211 are just two examples of amazing prison dramas post The Shawshank Redemption. Anyway, it seems that to get a good prison movie nowadays you have to look outside the states because the story lines seem to be so much more compelling. The next promising prison film is entitled R and is both written and directed by Tobias Lindholm and Michael Noer. Check out the gritty trailer after the jump.

The prisoner R arrives to Denmark’s toughest prison, where he is to serve a sentence for violent assault. R is reduced to a number, a letter, just another inmate. The prison is a parallel world filled with rules, honor, and debts. A world, in which bars cover the windows and blood stains the floor. R is placed in the most hardcore ward. Here he must find his place in the system, learn to navigate, and fight for survival.
