On February 27, 2011 you better prepare yourself, because James Franco and Anne Hathaway will be taking the stage at the Kodak theater to present the most prestigious award in the film industry to those who may or may not deserve it, I’m talking about the Oscar. Earlier today the nominations for the 83rd annual Academy Awards were announced and, while there may have been a few people/films that have been snubbed, the list actually seems pretty solid. You can check out the list inits entirety after the jump.

As it stands The King’s Speech leads the pack with 12 nominations, True Grit got a surprising 10 nominations, and both The Social Network and Inception are tied with a respectable eight nominations, although Inception’s may not be for what you think.

As for the snubbing, the one real major one is Paul Giamatti for Barney’s Version. I heard that he was fantastic in the film and, although I haven’t seen it, people have raved too much about it for me not to mention it. While Nolan didn’t get nominated for Best Director, I completely understand it, he is a great director and I hope he get nominated one day but Inception was more about the script and editing more than anything.

I’m glad to see that Outside the Law was nominated for best foreign language film but I’m kind of upset that neither the Chinese or Hong Kong films made it, I’m a big fan of Echoes of the Rainbow. I also think the documentary race is going to be the most interesting. I’ve only seen Restrepo and Exit Through the Gift Shop and both were some of the most fascinating and entertaining docs I’ve seen in a long time.

Lastly, wtf, Mark Ruffalo got an Oscar nomination? Now I know there is something wrong with the Academy but at least they gave John Hawkes a nomination for his fine acting in Winter’s Bone even if I personally wasn’t a huge fan of it. I’ll stop ranting now and let you check out the list. Expect a bit more commentary from me in the future but do leave your thought about the nominations in the comments section below.
