Yesterday, Baz Luhrmann‘s 3D adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald‘s all-time classic novel, The Great Gatsby, shook the web with the release of the full trailer and poster for the film.

If you ever went to high school, you probably read The Great Gatsby at least once, if for some reason you never did, here is the official synopsis for the film:

The Great Gatsby follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

Now I’ll be honest, I was never a fan of the book, but after watching the trailer below, I’m very excited to see the film.

And here is the very Inception-like poster for the film.

The Great Gatsby stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, Elizabeth Debicki and Amitabh Bachchan. 

There are several things that the teaser trailer for P.T. Anderson‘s The Master confirms:

1) The movie is titled The Master after all

2) The movie is not a western

Both 1 and 2 were in doubt when a report leaked from Cannes last year that suggested what we originally thought was a movie that was a thinly-veiled parallel to the rise of the controversial religion of Scientology was instead a western, and though this new trailer from this year’s Cannes doesn’t show us much it seems like that report was false and it is what we thought it was all along (got it?).  In the teaser we see Joaquin Phoenix doing his best imitation of a troubled soul (of course, knowing Phoenix this might not be an imitation) that seems to lay the groundwork into Phoenix’s character’s entrance to a cult-like religion.

The Master stars Anderson favorite Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, Lena Endre (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) and Laura Dern (Jurassic Park).  The film has recently been bumped from a 2013 release to an October 12, 2012 release.  Check out the teaser and the official blurb below:

That was the theatrical trailer that hit last week and the one below is the one that was released by none other than FunnyorDie.com.

Granted the film hasn’t even begun shooting, these teasers give viewers just enough to get excited and cream in their jeans or jean creams or, you get the point. Regardless, it’s nice to see they are sticking to the original and giving us the classic Anchorman feel.

Anchorman 2 is set to hit theaters 2013, most likely late summer if not early fall.

“For the last ten years I’ve been choosing the director to direct me. This one I direct myself.” he said. “I hope this movie, 20 years later, people still remember it. For me, for the audience, for my future, for my history — it’s very important.”

I’m actually surprised people misinterpreted his comments about retiring because in the below he says he’s still going to do action films, just not massive ones:

“I’ve been fighting and doing action films all my life, you’ve got to find a point to stop. With this movie I’m the director, I’m the writer, I’m the producer. So okay, I think it’s a good time to announce that it’s my last big action movie. I would still do action movies but not a big one like this.”

He also mentions the toll the films have taken on his body:

“It hurts, it really hurts. The shoulder, the ankle, it really hurts. You don’t know because I still look healthy… They say ‘no, you’re still young, you can still do it,’ but I have to stop one day.”

All I can say is well done Mr. Chan.  You’re going out exactly the way you want too, by your own rules and under your own guidance, that’s not something many people have done or can do.

As a massive Jackie Chan fan I cannot wait for the day I can see this on the big screen.  It’s taken way too long for Jackie to make a movie in English that I’ve actually wanted to see as all of his good films have been excellent products of China (which is not a bad thing at all).  The action in the trailer looks great, the jokes are funny and his character Asian Hawk is officially back!

The film is Double Trouble, an action comedy that seems like the perfect vehicle for a Chan.  This Chinese/Taiwan co-production looks like a pretty fun film filled with a lot of action, ridiculous situations and hopefully a lot of humor.  Maybe we’ll get something along the lines of Rush Hour meets Friday After Next (only because they were security guards), which would be the equivalent of a fun Friday night popcorn flick.

China Lion will be distributing the film in select AMC theaters across the states on June 8th but in the meantime check out the trailer below and let us know what you think of Jaycee in action.

Two security guards — one from Beijing, one from Taipei — are forced to work together to track down a legendary Chinese painting that has been stolen by international art thieves. Jaycee Chan, Xia Yu, Deng Jiajia, Jessica C and Shoko star in this ballsy action comedy from the action director of “Let The Bullets Fly”!

“Some men are coming to kill us.  We’re going to kill them first.”  What a classic Bond line.  Now watch the teaser for Sam Mendes’ SKYFALL and start to get really, really excited.

So what’d you think?  I for one think it’s a really well done teaser and does exactly what it needs to do, tease us.  We don’t see Bardem, we don’t learn what Skyfall is, but we do know that the shit is about to hit the fan and that this is going to be a much darker Bond film than Craig’s last two.  I can’t wait until November!

In SKYFALL, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

Skyfall also stars Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Judi Dench, Albert Finney,Berenice Malohe and Naomie Harris. It is set to hit theaters in Europe on October 26th, 2012 and in the US on November 9th.

Well the first trailer is now out, and not only does Murray surprisingly look like FDR, but he does a fantastic job of approaching the role in a way I’d never expected.  This just jumped up eight or so spots on my “Can’t Wait to See” list… and about that Oscar?  Murray has a good chance of getting it this time around.

The film is directed by Roger Michell (Morning Glory).  It is set for a December 7, 2012 release (ahhh… I see what they did there). It also stars Laura Linney, Olivia Williams, Samuel West, and Olivia Colman.

Doomsday Book has been a long time coming, it started production in 2006 and was finally completed in 2012 before receiving a limited release in Korea this past April.  Not only does the film have two powerful directors helming it, it also features a great cast comprised of Kim Kang-woo (Hello, Schoolgirl), Park Hae-il (War Of The Arrows) and Song Sae-byeok (Sector 7).  If you ask me, this is Korea’s answer (or question?) to the upcoming Cloud Atlas film, which is also a high concept feature with multiple directors and an anthology-like approach, mixed with a bit of Robopocalypse or I-Robot.

I like Stephen King as much as the next person, but King’s worst work is the overly cheesy stuff, which this film seems to be celebrating.  I’m sure that’s the intention but… look, just watch it yourself.  I can’t possibly call this one for you.  The film was recently picked up by Camelot Distribution Group, and (believe it or not) it will screen at Cannes and is looking for a distribution plan.

You Can’t Kill Stephen King was written by Monroe Mann, Ronnie Khalil, and Bob Madia and was directed by Mann, Khalil, and Jorge Valdes-Iga.  Khalil and Mann also star along with a bunch of good-looking ladies and the Token Black Guy (Justin Brown).

The first clip is more of just an informative piece featuring Dr. Connors and doesn’t have any actual footage of the film, but is still interesting.

The second clip is by far the best of the two. Along with footage from the film, we also get to see a few shots of Dr. Connors transferring into the lizard.

So this next preview is actually the four minute super preview that aired during America’s Got Talent. It’s actually a nice little treat and although it does feature a lot of footage we have already seen, it does have some new stuff as well.

I have to say, thus far I have been very pleased with the marketing for this film and my anticipation for it has increased substantially due to it. Well done Sony, well done.
