It’s been a while coming but it seems as if JJ Abrams sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness is finally ready to take off with its viral marketing campaign. Last week the viral site AreYouThe1701.com went live and gave visitors information about a Vine and Instagram contest. The directions were simple, simply post a picture that has a Star Trek or futuristic inspirational feel to it. If selected, who knows what would happen, but we did know that the 1701 winner would be chosen from the submissions. Without any notification, winners should have received a poster tube in the mail yesterday. What was inside the tube? We got the goods below!
Yesterday afternoon a package arrived at my house from Paramount studios, inside the tube was a limited edition movie poster for Star Trek Into Darkness, A pair of red and blue 3D glasses and a note telling me I have been chosen as one of #The1701. Also on the note were instructions regarding a special 3D trailer that would be released yesterday at 12PM PST.
What else is in store for the members of the 1701 (I’ve been informed by our resident Trekkie that 1701 is the ship number for The Enterprise) we will have to wait and see after the trailer hits and more pages become active on the site.
