Okay, we know Jaws 19 is coming in 2015, but what about 2014? As long as there’s no Mayan doomsday or rapture or any other bullshit story about the end the world happening over the next few years, you can already calendar out what movies you’ll be seeing in 2012, 2013, and yes, even 2014. Now, Hollywood staking out release dates for films well in advance is nothing new but, according to Deadline, studios are now setting dates for films that are hardly out of pre-production!
Much of this started with Sony, as they’ve set May 2, 2014 for the sequel of The Amazing Spider-Man even though the first one isn’t finished, won’t be released until next year, and there is no script yet. But who needs that? After Sony decided to start calling dibs on 2014, other studios followed. Check out this list of late 2013 to 2014 “Save The Dates” with LOTS of head’s up. As you’ll see, some of these dates don’t even have titles yet!
2013
October 4, 2013 Untitled Henry Selick 3D Movie
November 22, 2013 Catching Fire (The Hunger Games Sequel)
November 27, 2013 Unspecified Pixar Movie
December 13, 2013 The Hobbit: There And Back Again
December 20, 2013 Walking With Dinosaurs
2014
March 21, 2014 Mr. Peabody & Sherman
May 2, 2014 The Amazing Spider-Man 2
May 16, 2014 Unspecified Disney-Marvel Movie
May 30, 2014 Unspecified Pixar Movie
June 20, 2014 How to Train Your Dragon 2
June 27, 2014 Unspecified Disney-Marvel Movie
As you can see, a lot of these are animated films, which of course take much more lead time. Of these, only The Hobbit Part 2 is currently filming. Still, you can’t blame the major studios for mapping out their release dates so far in advance, even if I have problems figuring out what I’m going to do next week.
