The temperatures are cooling, the leaves are changing on the trees, and pumpkins are being carved into ghoulish faces to be displayed on porches abound. That can only mean one thing for Denverites who enjoy Halloween more than any other holiday: It’s time for the 2014 Mile High Horror Film Festival. And this year, the party starts opening night.
Starting October 9th and running until October 12th, the Alamo Drafthouse in Littleton, CO will become a hub for all of us horror fans to gather, watch a few frightful flicks, and get to meet some of the genius minds behind the macabre. On October 9th we kick things off with the Mile High Monster Party. Following the premiere of the original 1972 version of The Hills Have Eyes with actor Michael Berryman available for a Q&A, the Alamo celebrates opening night with FREE beer from Breckenridge Brewery along with hors d’oeuvres, karaoke, performances by the Enigma, free giveaways, and the Mile High Horror Costume Contest!
While the festival will continue for the next three days (ending Sunday, October 12th), MovieBuzzers will be reviewing some amazing films that sent chills up our spines when viewing the video trailers. The following are what to expect seeing us review during the festival:
V/H/S Viral
Following the success of V/H/S and V/H/S /2, V/H/S Viral follows several fame-obsessed teens who unwittingly become stars of the next internet sensation. By the looks of the trailer, this is going to be one crazy film.
Late Phases
Written by Eric Stolze and directed by Spain’s Adrian Garcia Bogliano, Late Phases introduces us to Ambrose McKinley (Nick Damici), an angry, bitter war veteran who moves into a retirement community. Right away, Ambrose begins to hear about deaths in the community that are traced back to dog attacks. After being attacked one night, Ambrose realizes he is not facing Fido, but something much more sinister.
Dead Snow 2: Red vs Dead
In 2009 director Tommy Wirkola introduced us to a group of medical students vacationing in Norway’s beautiful mountains who are attacked by extremely angry Nazi Zombies buried in the snow. Yes, it seems silly, but it was a massive international indie hit among the horror community and here, in 2014, we find it’s sequel. Picking up right after the first film’s events, we find Martin (Vegar Hoel) waking up in a hospital safe and sound. Well, that is until he realizes the doctors at the hospital have made a horrible mistake while taking care of Martin’s injuries.
Housebound
Home detention is not something one would look forward to. Especially when you have to deal with it in your creepy childhood home and your roommate is your crazy mother, who claims the house is haunted. Yet, Kylie (Morgana O’Reilly) can’t seem to shake the feeling that she is being watched and hearing bumps and whispers in the night. Did she inherit her mother’s overactive imagination or are there menacing poltergeists afoot?
This year’s 2014 festival will also feature:
A viewing of The Blair Witch Project with co-director Eduardo Sanchez and producer Gregg Hale, and Dan Myrick In-Person, Ellen Dietz from The Exorcist, the Candyman himself Tony Todd, creator of Final Destination Jeffrey Reddick, the original Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Gunnar Hansen, Tiffany Shepis from Syfy’s Sharknado 2, and Julie Adams from The Creature of Black Lagoon.
MoveBuzzers will be on the scene this weekend and will not only be reporting on the flicks mentioned above, but also the festival’s shorts programs the Mile High Horror festival has in store for us!
Stay Tuned!
