Tron: Legacy got a lot of flack, but I really enjoyed it despite it’s sluggish middle. Of course, it took 28 years for a sequel to 1982’s Tron to get made, so although there has been murmurs from Disney about a third Tron film, even die-hard Tron fans took a “wait and see” attitude. Nevertheless, we’ve come one step closer to Tron 3, as Disney has hired David Digilio (Eight Below, TV’s Traveler) according to The Hollywood Reporter.
As any Tron fan can tell you, there were a few “teasers” on the Tron: Legacy DVD that suggest a third film is in the works, which will come after Tron Uprising, an animated mini-series that bridges the gap between the first two films and which airs next summer on the Disney channel. Although Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski is involved in Tron Uprising, The Hollywood Reporter is suggesting that it’s possible that he won’t return to direct the third film. Hmmm… considering Kosinksi saw Tron: Legacy through like a labor of love, that would sure be a bummer.
