For any expectant parent, the guide to pregnancy, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, is a must-have. However, it is now being turned into a motion picture, and Cameron Diaz (The Green Hornet) is in final negotiations to star.
Kirk Jones (Nanny McPhee) will be helming the project based on Heidi Murkoff’s best-selling book series, ithas been adapted by Shauna Cross (Whip It) and Heather Hach (Freaky Friday), according to Movie Web. The website also reveals that the movie will focus on five couples who are about to become first-time parents.
The Hollywood Reporter adds these couples will “suffer the many joys of the childbirth process.” Also, Diaz’s character will be “a woman in the mold of Jillian Michaels and hosts a weight-loss fitness show.”
Diaz is the only name attached thus far, however Coming Soon says to “expect more names to sign shortly as the aim is for an ensemble cast.” Much like the tradition that Valentine’s Day and He’s Just Not That Into You has set, this is sure to be a date night flick for new parents and perhaps even help Diaz find the success that she had earlier in her career, after flops like Knight & Day, The Box, and What Happens in Vegas.
If I recall correctly, I believe this would be the first time we’re seeing Diaz play a pregnant woman (correct me if I’m wrong!), so seeing the svelte actress in a pregnancy belly and maybe add a few extra pounds could help with the comedy factor. Diaz can be seen next in Bad Teacher with Justin Timberlake and Jason Segel on June 24th.
Does this sound like a movie that you’d want to see? Would you recommend it to friends on the brink of welcoming their bundle of joy (so far)?
