Yesterday, EW unveiled the cover to its upcoming issue featuring the debut of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in Gary Ross’ adaptation of the popular book series, The Hunger Games.
As a huge fan of the novels, I, like many others, was originally skeptical of Lawrence tackling the lead role. It has nothing to do with her ability to conquor the part, which I think she can do, but rather her appearance and age is what lead me to doubt the authenticity of her selection. After seeing EW’s cover(below), I have had a slight change of heart. I think she looks incredible, and rather sexy, as Katniss and a little bit of how I pictured her to be in the books, but the age gap is still throwing me off. Plus I don’t see this good looking Katniss having a fun relationship with Peeta or even Gale. Josh Hutcherson isn’t my favorite of young actors and he hasn’t proven to me that he can handle a role as important as Peeta…plus he’s too short for the part.
Anyway, take a look below and share your thoughts in the comments section below? Is this what you had in mind when you read the books?
“The Hunger Games” chronicles a dystopic Capitol which requires its twelve subjugated districts to pay tribute in the form of a teenage boy and girl, forced to participate in the annual “Hunger Games,” a fight-to-the-death live televised event. Katniss Everdeen’s little sister is chosen in the lottery to participate and Katniss volunteers to take her place. Although persevering through hardship is commonplace for Katniss, she must start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love in order to win the games and return home. The “Hunger Games” novel has been on the New York Times best seller list for over 100 consecutive weeks. Foreign rights for the book, published by Scholastic have been sold in 41 countries.
