King Kong is one of those legendary films that tells a timeless story. The original 1933 film is a work of art, as is Peter Jackson‘s much longer, but just as satisfying remake from 2005 (we’ll continue to forget the forgettable 1976 remake and the various sequels). I’d expect another Kong remake in about 30-40 years to follow the pattern, but Deadline is reporting that there will be one a whole lot sooner than that. According to the report, Fox Animation is aiming to get an animated King Kong movie on track, with a few unique twists: it will have a modern-day setting and will be told from the perspective of Kong. I’m sure there will be songs by Elton John or Phil Collins, too. That wasn’t in the report, but let’s face it, we might as well assume the ridiculous.
Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow, who according to IMDB have yet to work on a feature film but are definitely getting some positive buzz, have been tapped to write the script from an idea by Mike Weber, executive producer of Everybody’s Fine. The only other names attached are Shawn Levy (director of Real Steel and the Night at the Museum movies) and Ted Field (producer of the Riddick films), who will both produce.
Hopefully it will at least be better than the various King Kong animated series, including the 1960s “King Kong Show” pictured above. Also, I hope it doesn’t delay the already announced Mr. Men animated movie from Fox Animation.
Well, I have nothing else to say about this story, so if you have anything clever to add, you know where the comments are…
