In the trailer for Steve Carrell’s first post-Office movie, Crazy, Stupid, Love., we find the comedian getting a divorce from the always gorgeous, four-time Oscar nominee Julianne Moore (The Kids Are All Right), but that’s not the only rollercoaster of laughs and emotion going on in the film. You also have a very sculpted and cocky Ryan Gosling (Blue Valentine) playing a ladies man who starts unraveling upon meeting Hollywood’s ultimate it-girl-of-the-moment, Emma Stone (Easy A) (and who, by the way, seems to be in many movies worth catching for the rest of this year and some months into the next including The Help, Friends with Benefits, Movie 43, and The Amazing Spiderman).
The movie’s scribe, Dan Fogelman, may be best known for animated features like Tangled and Bolt, but with these very in-demand actors taking on the parts of his characters, we could definitely be seeing more from the writer. In addition, the movie’s directors are Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, also responsible for the scripts behind the underappreciated I Love You Phillip Morris and enjoyably offensive Bad Santa.
IMDB lists the story with: “A father’s life unravels while he deals with a marital crisis and tries to manage his relationship with his children.” While all signs point to “formulaic,” it’s safe to say that the opposite directions in which Gosling’s Jacob and Carrell’s Cal take while colliding at very vulnerable and opportune times in their lives, this could make for some pretty memorable movie magic, and I mean in relation to the comedic way that failed to prosper between Seth Rogen and Adam Sandler in Funny People.
Be sure to catch the supporting cast which includes Marisa Tomei (The Lincoln Lawyer) and Kevin Bacon (X-Men: First Class) as Carrell and Moore’s respective rebounds, as well as young Joey King (Ramona and Beezus) who has recently been cast in the highly anticipated The Dark Knight Rises and Oz: The Great & Powerful.
Crazy, Stupid, Love. hits theaters July 29th, and is sure to be a date-friendly romantic dramedy that both the guys and the ladies can enjoy! Check out the trailerbelow and let us know what you think about Carrell’s big screen move! Are you excited to see Gosling and Stone’s on-screen chemistry?
