Due Date — which was co-written by TV’s King of the Hill and American Dad writers Alan Cohen and Alan Freedland — was a solid comedy, although John Hughes did the concept a lot better over two decades earlier in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. But the film did pretty well at the box office, so it’s no surprise that Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. has scooped up the writing duo’s next pitch and have Will Ferrell attached to star. The concept, titled Swear to God, is “a buddy comedy in which Ferrell plays a narcissistic hedge fund manager who thinks he has seen God.” Well, that certainly has potential for hilarity, but it probably depends on who ends up cast as Ferrell‘s “buddy.” Deadline initially reported that frequent Ferrell collaborator Adam McKay (Anchorman, The Other Guys, Step Brothers) was set to direct, but quickly corrected the story to say that McKay isn’t set for the director’s chair just yet.
Does this concept seem interesting enough for a Ferrell movie for you? Give us your thoughts in the comments!
