If you’ve seen Family Man starring Nicolas Cage, then you’re probably going to see a lot of similarities in theme, and not in the It’s a Wonderful Life kind of way, between that and I Don’t Know How She Does It, starring Sarah Jessica Parker (Sex & the City). While the trailer shows no signs of unlikely magic transforming her character, Kate’s life, we do see the conundrum of having to choose between corporate demands and the family. IMDB adds that this is “A comedy centered on the life of Kate Reddy, a finance executive who is the breadwinner for her husband and two kids.”
Also on board are Greg Kinnear (The Kennedys) as Kate’s husband Richard, Pierce Brosnan (Remember Me) as Kate’s boss, Olivia Munn (Perfrect Couples), Kelsey Grammar (Fraiser), Seth Meyers (Saturday Night Live), Jessica Szhor (Gossip Girl), Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), Busy Philipps (Cougar Town), and Jane Curtin (I Love You, Man).
Since the wild success of the first Sex & the City motion picture, Parker as a lead has seemed to fail at the box office, including the movie’s sequel and Did You Hear About The Morgans? with Hugh Grant. Of course, this movie speaks to the many women who are torn between the love of her career and the love of her family, but perhaps the biggest benefit that this movie could serve is for the fashion magazines since Parker is best known for her red carpet style than her acting chops in any other non-Carrie Bradshaw capacity.
Although, Emma director Douglas McGrath could have the potential to bring the much-needed gusto to a story written by romantic-comedy scribe Aline McKenna Brosh, who is responsible for such titles as The Devil Wears Prada, 27 Dresses, Morning Glory, and the upcoming We Bought a Zoo. In addition, the script was adapted from the novel of the same name, written by Allison Pearson, which Amazon calls “a devastatingly funny novel.”
Set for a September 16th release, you can take a look at the trailer below and tell us what you think about Parker’s turn as a multitasking mother, wife, and corporate success. Is this a movie that you’d go see? Do you think Parker and Kinnear make for a good on-screen couple?
