After a shot of three of the thirteen dwarves of The Hobbit came out at the end of last week (Nori, Ori, and Dori), we get two more from Yahoo Movies, and these guys look vaguely familiar. And why’s that? Because these dwarves are John Callen as Oin and Peter Hambleton as Gloin, and they are the uncle and father, respectively, of Gimli, the dwarf who was a member of the Fellowship of the Ring in The Lord of the Rings.
Gloin, in particular, looks a lot like his son, don’t you think? Like the last photo release, this pic comes with an explanation:
Distant cousins of Thorin Oakenshield, these two doughty Northern Dwarves join the Company out of a sense of loyalty to their kin, and also because they have a substantial sum of money invested in the venture. Along with Bombur, Gloin is the only other married Dwarf in the Company (there being a shortage of female dwarves in general). His wife is an acclaimed beauty with a particularly fine beard. Gloin is the proud father of a young son, Gimli, who will go on to become part of the famous Fellowship of the Ring.”
Again, the production team is really working hard to make the dwarves look visually different, which will be a great way to distinguish them for audiences.
Oin and Gloin will appear with the rest of the mega-cast in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which is set for a December 14, 2012 release and, The Hobbit: There and Back Again. which is set for a December 13, 2013 release.
