Hitting theaters this August is Sion Sono’s highly praised thriller, Cold Fish. For those of you who may not know Sion Sono, he had made some truly fantastic and disturbing films like Love Exposure and Suicide Club (this film still haunts me when I think about it) and has also made consistant appearances at both the Venice and Toronto Film festivals. For old and new fans alike, the following information will make you very happy.
Thanks to Bloody Disgusting Selects, not only will this film be getting a theatrical release, but they will also be the ones distributing it on DVD and other platforms. Starting August 5th you can catch the film in theaters in NYC and then it will expand to a few other markets (check their site for details). After that, on August 23rd, you’ll be able to buy this intense piece of Japanese cinema on DVD and on iTunes (time to celebrate genre fans!).
If you don’t know anything about the film check out the trailer below, I guarantee it will pique your interest.
Synopsis: In the film, mild-mannered Shamoto’s teenage daughter gets caught shoplifting. A generous fellow fish-store owner and his wife appear to help resolve the situation by having her work at their fish store. Too good to be true? You bet! Shamoto soon discovers the horrific truth about this seemingly perfect couple…who inextricably weave him into their grisly rituals. Inspired by true events, COLD FISH is a twisted, brutal, blood-soaked drama that reveals the underlying insanity of an ordinary man pushed well beyond the brink.
