The next James Bond film is always of interest, but especially this time around because Bond 23 will come 4 years after the previous film and because, well, Quantum of Solace was a let down. But Bond 23 seems like it’s not going to disappoint since it is assembling one of the most acclaimed cast in Bond movie history. First, what’s confirmed: Naomie Harris (Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3) is set to play Miss Moneypenny, which will be the character’s first appearance in the Daniel Craig era. Many fans were looking forward to the return of the character, so that’s a good sign that the producers are listening.
Now for what’s rumored: The UK’s Telegraph is reporting that not only is the previously-rumored Javier Bardem still set to play the film’s villain, but Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man) is also set for the film. The article adds no other detail — it instead focuses on the fact that the last time Daniel Craig and Rhys Ifans were in a movie (Enduring Love) they made out. That’s cool and all, but what about more Bond 23 details, sir? These names are added to Ralph Fiennes (Schindler’s List), who was previously announced for an unspecified role in the film.
Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Road to Perdition) will be directing the as-yet-untitled film. The script is by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who have written the past four Bond films, and are joined by John Logan (Any Given Sunday, Gladiator) this time around. Daniel Craig will, of course, return as Bond, and we can probably expect Judi Dench to return as M. It is believed that part of the film will be set in South Africa, a first for Bond. The film is set for a worldwide release on November 9, 2012. As usual, the UK and Ireland will be getting the movie two weeks earlier on October 26.
