The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Brad Furman has signed on to direct an untitled film about the life of former drug lord Pablo Escobar.
The script is being written by Matt Aldrich, who recently sold another script to Warner Bros. called Father Daughter Time: A Tale of Armed Robbery and Eskimo Kisses.
Fulman will re-team with Lincoln Lawyer producer, Scott Steindorff, for the film about one of the most notorious drug dealers in history.
Hollywood has this strange fascination with Pablo because there have been two films that were rumored to start production recently, one being Oliver Stone‘s Escobar and the other called Killing Pablo, which was being directed by Joe Carnahan. Both projects have since been placed on hold, which means they will probably never happen.
The Furman project is said to be a mix between The Godfather and an old fashion war movie. Steindorff said, “This is the Latino Godfather.”
Of course everyone knows that in HBO’s Entourage, Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier) made a terrible film about Escobar called Medellin and it was only fitting for Furman to say the following when asked about his upcoming Escobar film, “He was intriguing in many ways. It’s a dark story but it’s also a human interest story. I’m most excited about working with the talented Vincent Chase!”
