Not a lot of people are aware that 20th Century Fox is moving forward on a fifth Die Hard film… then again, not many people were even aware that there was a fourth Die Hard film in production until the trailers started playing in theaters. Well, anyone who’s interested will have to wait a little longer, since Twitch Film reports that the fellow who had been penciled in to direct, Noam Murro, has exited the project because of his commitments to 300: Battle Of Artemisia. Deadline has provided a shortlist of directors who are being considered for the film: Joe Cornish (director of the Movie Buzzers fave Attack the Block), Justin Lin (Fast Five), Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive), and John Moore (Behind Enemy Lines, Max Payne), with Twitch claiming that Moore is the favorite.
Whoever ends up directing will be working from a script by Skip Woods (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), which brings John McClane to Russia with his son in tow to probably blow up everything in sight when they end up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Previously reports have given the film the title Die Hard 24/7 and have suggested that McClane will once again be against a member of the villainous Gruber clan. Hey, why not go with a more interesting spin and have McClane forced to team up with a Gruber for once instead? I’m fine with that, although I really do miss the lone John McClane versus the world in the original film. Those days are long gone, though.
I recently rewatched Live Free or Die Hard (this time in the “Unrated” DVD cut) and it’s much better than I remembered, so I’m up for another McClane adventure. What about you, readers? Let us know in the comments below!
