If you’ve wondered where American Pie star Natasha Lyonne has ended up after all these years, well here‘s your answer. She’s recently been cast in Kristen Wiig’s new comedy, Imogene, according to Variety. The cast is headed up by Wiig, Darren Criss (Glee), Annette Bening (The Kids Are All Right) who plays Wiig’s on-screen mother, June Diane Raphael (Going the Distance), and Fitzgerald.
IMDB gives us this story by Middle of Nowhere writer Michelle Morgan who has developed Wiig‘s storyline: “A playwright stages a suicide in an attempt to win back her ex, only to wind up in the custody of her gambling-addict mother.” Also on board to direct are duo Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini (American Splendor, The Nanny Diaries, Cinema Verite).
Needless to say, the combination of all this talent, and coming off the success of Bridesmaids, Wiig is attracting some pretty big names for her own pet project. Seeing her opposite Bening, a four-time Oscar-nominated actress, is a comedic thrill in itself.
It’s reported that Lyonne’s character is Allyson, ‘a Jersey Shore girl who works on the boardwalk and is the love interest of Christopher Fitzgerald‘s character.’ Lyonne is reportedly linked to 2012’s American Reunion, the follow-up to the 1999 American Pie that brought Lyonne to fame, along with her starring role in But I‘m A Cheerleader. Also, she has recently joined the cast of Abel Ferrara’s fantasy drama The Last Day on Earth with Willem Defoe.
What do you think of the lineup for Imogene? Does Wiig have what it takes to follow up the success of Bridesmaids on the big screen?
