Anyone remember when Stephen King said he was retiring from writing? I’m glad he hasn’t, and neither is Hollywood — after all, The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that director Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs) has bought the rights to write and direct an adaptation of King‘s upcoming novel 11/22/63.
Of course, November 22, 1963 was the day that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, and King‘s 1000 page novel is a time travel story which involves a character trying to stop the Kennedy assassination while meeting many famous historical figures. Should the film get made, King will serve as executive producer.
The Kennedys are always popular film subjects, and King‘s name definitely sells, so this looks like a perfect combination for success now that an Oscar winner is in the director’s chair. It would seem likely that the film would be released in November 2013, which would be the 50th anniversary of the assassination.
