The last time I spoke about Gareth Huw Evans’ Iko Uwais project, The Raid, was back in March when a video of the pre-production training was going on. That was the moment when they first released the synopsis and poster for the film. Well now that the film finished screening at TIFF there has been a lot of adrenaline pumping buzz coming out about the action flick. To keep that buzz going, Sony has released a red band trailer via MTV and news about who is going to be re-scoring this Indonesian actioner for the US audiences, Mr. Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park. Shinoda is definitely a worthy candidate and this will mark the first time the talented man has composed a film.
A swat team arrives at a rundown apartment block with a mission to remove its owner, a notorious drug lord named Tama. The building has never been raided before, never been touched by police. Seen as a no go zone it has since become a sanctuary to killers, gangs, rapists and thieves seeking accommodation in the one place they know they cannot be touched.
Making their move in the break of dawn the swat team work their way up the building under cover of silence. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and with news of their assault traveling to Tama in his penthouse suite the building is locked down with all lights out and all exits blocked.
Stranded on the 6th floor the swat team must fight their way through every floor and every room not just to complete their mission but to survive.
If you ever want to sell an action film to an audience then the red band trailer for The Raid should be your prime example to follow. The below trailer is from Twitch since it allows everyone around the world to see it versus just the US audience. Check it out below and prepare to get your face shot off.
Press Release:
Culver City, CA (September 9, 2011) – Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) has teamed-up with LINKIN PARK’s Mike Shinoda to create an entirely new musical score for the ultra-intense action picture
THE RAID, starring break-out martial arts sensation Iko Uwais (Merantau) and Joe Taslim (Rasa). This collaboration will mark Shinoda’s first feature score.
“This film is wall-to-wall action, and one of the most exciting pictures of the year. I’m thrilled for Linkin Park fans to see–and hear–this film.”
The high-adrenaline film produced by PT. Merantau Films and XYZ Films and directed by Gareth Evans (Merantau) enjoyed its North American debut last night at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival’s “Midnight Madness” screening, but included the original score as yet untouched by Shinoda’s sonic stylings.
Director Gareth Evans said, “It’s an incredibly exciting opportunity for us to collaborate with such talent on the score for the film. I can’t wait to see what new angle they will take to enhance the impact of the film.”
Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films commented, “Working with a talented musician like Mike Shinoda is a dream scenario because his vision and sound are a perfect compliment to the intense energy and emotion of THE RAID. Gareth and our collective teams are thrilled to be able to fuse these extraordinary elements together.”
SPWA has U.S. rights and Celluloid Nightmares is the worldwide sales agent for the film.
