This might come with some backlash, but while at Comic Con this year we kept on seeing these phone booth costumes and people wearing overcoats and had no idea what they were. While sitting in line for Hall H we made friends with some guys from the UK who informed us of Doctor Who and the greatness of the show and its following. I personally had no idea that this show was such a big deal and has been going on for almost 5o years now. So with that 50th anniversary being next year it seems only fitting that a Doctor Who featured film would coming to the big screen, in a few years.
Variety reports that the infamous Harry Potter director David Yates is planning to bring the time traveling doctor to theaters in a couple of years. Here is what Yates said about the status of the film,
We’re going to spend two to three years to get it right and we’re looking at writers now.
Now before all the Doctor Who fanboys start throwing Dalek parties to celebrate brace yourselves for what Yates had to say about the film version,
It needs quite a radical transformation to take it into the bigger arena, Russell T. Davies and then Steven Moffat have done their own transformations, which were fantastic, but we have to put that aside and start from scratch.
So what exactly does that mean? It means that the film will not tie into any aspects from the series and most likely will not use any of the actors who have played the good Doctor over the years. If this is the case and Yates wants to go his own way with this then I strongly suggest he bite the bullet and cast David Tennant as the Doctor even though he played him in the TV series. The guy is awesome to watch on both the small screen and big screen (best part of Fright Night).
