Two days ago, Sony Pictures Worldwide and FilmDistrict announced that they were partnering up with Ghost House Pictures for Sony to distribute the remake of Evil Dead, yes, a remake of the original film which featured the great Bruce Campbell.
Deadline posted a few very interesting quotes from Rob Tapert who is one of the original producing partners, with additional comments from Peter Schlessel, CEO of FilmDistrict.
For 30 years, Sam, Bruce and I have been looking for the right home where we could return the deadites to the big screen. Amy Pascal and Jeff Blake at Sony and Peter Schlessel at FilmDistrict have always been incredible partners who share our passion for great storytelling as well as our obsession for scaring the pants off the audience. Together, we are looking forward to terrorizing a whole new generation. Tapert stated.
Schlessel added,
I have been part of the extended Ghost House family for a long time. It’s fantastic to continue the relationship as we bring this classic horror film to a new generation of fans.
Word has been going around for about a year now that a potential remake of the film was in the works and that Sam Raimi would pass the directing reins over to Fede Alvarez. Ghost House and FilmDistrict want to fast track the film and begin production sometime in 2012 which means we might get picture around October 2012 if they work quick enough.
No word yet if Campbell will make an appearance in the film, but we do know he will not star in it. I’m expecting him to play one of the dead that attacks the cabin.
And yes, that is a Mondo poster done by the great Olly Moss
