The title really says it all. After the jump you will find some ridiculous trailers from the artistic and comical to the utterly disturbing and disgusting, all from around the world.
Fish Story (Fisshu sutôrî )-Japan
All I can say about this film is that it is something only the Japanese would think up. Massawyrm over at aintitcool.com called it his #2 movie of 2009. Unfortunately, we all can’t be as cool as him to have seen this already but we can be patient and eagerly await its arrival. The trailer seems a bit off but I’ve linked Massawyrm’s article about the movie here. Check out the nutty and fun trailer below.
A rock band writes a song called “Fish Story” based on a sentence from a badly translated novel by a quack translator. The song exceeds the boundaries of space and time and ties people and their stories together. Thirty-seven years go by, and the song strikes a comet and saves the Earth from total destruction.
The Warlords (Tau ming chong)-China
I posted this trailer back in August or September but I need to repost it since it will be released in the states on VOD on March 3rd and in theaters on April 2nd. I am a huge fan of Jet Li, huge Chinese epics, and am constantly impressed with Andy Lau’s performance in films so I am super excited for this movie. I love Asia!
It’s a heroic tale of three blood brothers and their struggle in the midst of war and political upheaval. It is based on “The Assassination of Ma,” a Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) story about the killing of general Ma Xinyi. The story was filmed by Zhang Che in 1973 as The Blood Brothers
The Human Centipede Clip (NSFW)-Netherlands
Currently, there is no trailer for this movie and it has only been screened at a few film festivals throughout 2009. From what I have heard and after watching this clip, this movie is going to be extremely fucked up beyond all recognition. FUCKING FUBAR! Wait until you get to the last 20 seconds of the clip because your jaw will drop. Prepare yourself because this is definitely not safe for work.
Look up the synopsis yourself for this one.
After watching this movie, this is what Capone over at aintitcool.com had to say:
THE MOST FUCKED UP MOVIE I SAW IN 2009:
THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE
A Fantastic Fest standout that cannot be explained and almost can’t be endured. There was one point during the film where I simply had to remove my glasses AND look away from the screen to simply not acknowledge what I was seeing on the screen. It’s not that what was being portrayed visually was so appalling; it was more about the thought of what those poor people in this mad-scientist marvel were going through that I simply couldn’t stomach for fear of fainting, vomiting, crapping my pants, convulsing, or some combination of all of the above. Even people that walked out at certain points during the screening I went to thought it was one of the best movies they saw at Fantastic Fest. If there is any way I can screen this awesomely repulsive film in Chicago, it will happen. Please seek this out by any means necessary. It doesn’t make the Top 30 list, only because it wasn’t officially released in 2009, but fingers crossed for 2010.
Starblazers aka Space Battleship Yamato – Japan
I can’t say I know much about this movie or this TV series but it seems as if all the middle age adults are screaming like little girls for this release. They grew up on this show and apparently have been waiting for its return, specifically to the big screen in live action format. For those of you older folks out there, this one is for you!
There is no synopsis because it is still in development and no plot has been releases as of yet.
Amer-Belgium/France (different sources have different countries listed)
This looks pretty cool and artsy. I need to get a better trailer to really understand what is going on but I’ll let you be the judge.
Desire has always been linked to one’s look. And cinema too. Luis Buñuel knew that very well when he filmed the short of a razor over an eye with a detail shot. Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani recover this image in an experimental film with immaculate style. Someone watches a girl through a keyhole. The wind lightly lifts a woman’s skirt as a group of men look on. The fantasy of a dress tearing. Composed of fragments -of eyes, lights, shadows, gestures– and without dialogues, Amer delves into the life of Ana, always halfway between the real and the imaginary. A film of sensations, always shot skin-deep. (Thanks Twitch.com)
