Not sure if the first story impacted the other, but they both revolve around the same date so I figured I would combine them. The Hollywood Reporter tells us that The Trouble With the Curve, starring Clint Eastwood as a baseball scout on his last recruiting trip and Amy Adams as his likely adorable daughter (unless she goes all-out The Fighter on us again) has been set for a September 28 release by Warner Bros. Eastwood ended up agreeing to do the film after he was forced to shut down production on his A Star Is Born remake with Beyonce (who, in case you live under a rock, just had a baby and thus couldn’t film the movie). This is Eastwood’s first film that he is starring in but not directing since 1993′s In The Line of Fire, as Eastwood’s frequent producing partner and second unit director, Robert Lorenz, would make his directorial debut on the film. It’s also the first time Eastwood is starring in a film since he sort-of-not-really claimed he retired from acting after 2008’s Gran Torino. I love Clint Eastwood’s movies and I love baseball, so this is a movie I’m definitely anticipating.
Shortly afterward Deadline reported that Savages, Oliver Stone‘s next movie which was also scheduled for a September 28 release, would be moving up two months to July 6. I included Stone on my 10 Veteran Directors Looking for a Hit in 2012 list, and Universal bumping up his movie to July might be a good sign that he’s done something right here (Stone hasn’t made an excellent film in over ten years, so I’ll take anything as a good sign at this point!), or maybe they just fear Clint Eastwood. The film, based on the Don Wilson novel, stars Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch as pot growers whose joint girlfriend (Blake Lively) is kidnapped by a Mexican drug cartel. It also stars Benicio Del Toro, a very bald-looking John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Emile Hirsch, and Salma Hayek.
