With March Madness being one of the most popular activities in America right now, it’s worth noting that for nearly a year I’ve been laying the odds for Martin Scorsese‘s next film after his Oscar-winning Hugo. That’s because there were, at one point ,seven films that the 69 year-old director was attached to. Let the guessing games end: Deadline reports that Scorsese’s next film will more than likely be The Wolf of Wall Street.
I gave The Wolf of Wall Street 18-1 odds in my first post, and didn’t even mention it in my follow-up post because it fell off the radar. The film will tell the true-life story of Jordan Belfort, whose hard-partying and criminal business practices in his financial firm Stratton Oakmont inspired the film Boiler Room. Adapted from Belfort’s book by Terrence Winter, who collaborates with Scorsese on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, Leonardo DiCaprio has been attached to star in this one since the get-go, so apparently Marty and Leo missed each other after the non-DiCaprio Hugo followed their four previous collaborations. There’s also a whole mess of producers involved (you can see those details in the Deadline article), since hardly any director draws headlines like Scorsese’s name does.
To be honest, I’ve had just about my fill of corrupt Wall Street movies in the last three and a half years, and I would’ve rather seen Scorsese tackle some of the other projects on his list (like Silence, The Irishman, or The Snowman). But a Scorsese movie is rarely a bad bet, so of course I’ll be in line to see it.
