Woody Allen has a need to make films like us mere mortals need to breathe. Though Allen will turn 77 at the end of 2012 he shows no signs of slowing down from his direct-a-film-a-year schedule, and considering his father lived until he was 100 and his mother until 95, it’s safe assuming we have at least a dozen more films left from Allen. So while Allen is fresh off his Best Original Screenplay Oscar win for Midnight in Paris and is gearing up for the release of his next film, To Rome With Love (which was previously titled Nero Fiddled and The Bop Decameron) in June, he is already in pre-production on his next project.
Deadline reports that Allen wants to cast Cate Blanchett and Bradley Cooper for his next film, and considering most actors drop everything to work with Allen it’s safe to assume they’re probably seriously considering it (especially who Cooper, who now has big hole in his schedule where Paradise Lost was supposed to be). Reports last year suggested that Allen would be continuing his filmmaking European tour since Munich-based Bavaria Studios were offering Allen a substantial sum of money to shoot his next movie in Germany after spending the last decade shooting in England (Match Point, Scoop, Cassandra’s Dream, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger), Spain (Vicky Cristina Barcelona), France (Midnight in Paris), and Italy (To Rome With Love). Those reports remain unconfirmed, but there’s no reason to think the offer isn’t still on the table even though the Deadline report suggests Allen is looking to shoot the film in Copenhagen.
Until then, you can enjoy Woody Allen starring as a pimp in John Turturro‘s Fading Gigolo, which is bound to be all kinds of fun.
