The latest news behind Alfred Hitchcock & the Making of ‘Pyscho’ keeps getting better, especially because the title of the film has recently been changed to just Hitchcock. This revision better serves the movie that originally had the tone of a documentary.
Not only are Anthony Hopkins (Thor) and Helen Mirren (Arthur) cast to play the titular director and his wife, Alma, but Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers) and Jessica Biel (Total Recall) are on board to respectively play Janet Leigh and Vera Miles, the on-screen sisters in Psycho.
Of course we all know Leigh’s famous shower scene as Marion Crane that sets forth her sister’s investigation into her disappearance at the Bates Motel, but the behind-the-scenes take on the filming of the legendary suspense movie is being compared to the caliber of which we saw in the ensemble cast of My Week with Marilyn. However, it’s safe to say that in place of the blonde bombshell’s fits of drug-induced whimpers, perhaps we’ll get to see a more in-depth examination into the inner workings of the iconic filmmaker that is best simply known as “Hitchcock.”
In addition, James D’Arcy (W.E.) plays Anthony Perkins’ famous role as the psycho himself, Norman Bates, Toni Collette (Fright Night), Danny Huston (Wrath of the Titans), and Michael Stuhlbarg (Hugo). The Sacha Gervasi-directed movie is adapted from Stephen Rebello’s book, who also co-wrote the script with John J. McLaughlin (Black Swan).
However, this isn’t the only Hitchcock-themed film in the works. Toby Jones (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) is appearing in the TV-movie The Girl as Hitchcock, along with Sienna Miller as Tippi Hedren, during the production of The Birds. Here Hitchock is the title which is more likely to grab audiences.
Production for Hitchcock is currently underway, as confirmed by Collider. A recent press release for the movie reveals that principal photography is set to start on April 13th for the Fox Searchlight Pictures project.
As more news emerges about this production, Movie Buzzers will be on board to share in the excitement! What do you think of Johansson as Leigh and Biel as Miles? Do you think they truly represent Hitchcock’s penchant for blonde actresses? Which Hitchcock-centered film are you most anticipating?
