G.I. Joe: Retaliation isn’t the only big film facing a date change lately, as both Disney and Fox announced some major shifts in release dates for some of their biggest 2013 and 2014 movies and announced some new ones. Not only do we finally get the title for the next Planet of the Apes film (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which makes me question the exact difference between rising and dawning), but it looks like Fox is set to own the summer 2014 movie season.
Most notably, the Fox/Disney co-production Robopocalypse, the Steven Spielberg-directed science fiction film, has been pushed back nearly a year from its initial July 3, 2013 release date and has been replaced in the schedule with a 3D re-release of Independence Day. Trust me, it is nowhere as good as you thought it was back in 1996, and 3D can’t fix the giant plot holes or Jeff Goldblum‘s character’s strange thought processing method. Also note that this is the second release date change for Lone Ranger, which was initially scheduled for December 21, 2012, then May 31, 2013, and now July 3, 2013. On the bright side we get Thor 2 a week earlier!
