The following should be considered a spoiler, however, it could be nothing more then something everyone has already seen and known for awhile. With that being said, IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW DO NOT KEEP READING.
So about a week ago there were reports that the media outlets were posting regarding a potential character in Shane Black‘s Iron Man 3. For the record, we were one of those outlets and you can check that out here. Now there are new reports coming in that everyone was possibly wrong about what the picture showed and in fact it was actually what I said it was prior to todays news.
The character in question was the Iron Patriot which you can see below. When this photo first came out everyone believe as well as I that this was somehow going to be James Badge Dale‘s character in the film. However, Latino Review has some new information that debunks the rumors and actually sheds some light on what exactly this suit of armor is (For the record: I mentioned this last week)
While the red white and blue suit seen in the below photos might be referred to as “the Iron Patriot,” it’s not the Iron Patriot as known in the comics. In fact, it’s actually Don Cheadle‘s War Machine, in a new, upgraded, patriotic armor.
We’re getting this from someone on set who says what we’re all calling “Iron Patriot” is Don Cheadle’s new armor. For purposes of clarity, I’ll still be calling it War Machine, even if the movie decides to call him “Iron Patriot”
The US Government has had their hands on this Stark suit for awhile, and apparently they’ve decided to make it more patriotic (especially with the nano-technology stuff I hear is going down in China these days, it’s important for America to look good, not like ‘Iron Man 2′s’ bulky grey War Machine).
That’s why the set photo of “Iron Patriot” has the War Machine gun on his back, because it’s NOT Iron Patriot, it’s NOT James Badge Dale, it’s NOT Coldblood-7.
Once again we have to classify this as speculation because it is still anyones guess as to what exactly is going on right now for the film. Hopefully we will get some clarification during SDCC this year as I’m sure this will be a hot topic and much speculated between now and then.
