With the news coming out yesterday regarding Guardians of the Galaxy being the second Marvel film in 2014, Ant-Man hopefuls quickly saw their dreams of seeing the character on the big screen diminish. Fear not Ant heads because Edgar Wright has just completed a test reel for Ant-Man so the dream is still alive
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Wright spent about a week earlier this month “shooting footage for a reel that will be used to test out the potential look and tone of his movie, as well as to decide how convincing Ant-Man’s powers look on screen.” Now this could go along with the rumors that a Special Effects company was purchasing every Ant-Man comic from the shop down the street in London, or it could mean nothing. What it does mean though is that there is footage out there for an Ant-Man film!
Wright hasn’t mentioned anything about the footage and probably won’t until he knows damn well that he and co-writer Joe Cornish can pull this off. I do want to stress that just because the test footage has been done, this does not mean Marvel or Disney has given the green light to the film.
If somehow Wright pulls it off with the test footage and Disney is pleased with it I would imagine filming would begin sometime in mid 2013. Wright currently has to film The World’s End which is the final film in his Blood and Ice Cream trilogy before he can begin Ant-Man, not to mention someone needs to be cast as Hank Pym.
The guys over at /Film did mention an interesting bit regarding the timing of this news coming out for Ant-Man. SDCC is less then two weeks away and this test reel has been done for a short time now. Could Marvel/Disney show the test footage during the Marvel panel at SDCC to see the crowds reaction? Highly unlikely since they will be showing Iron Man 3 and officially announcing Guardians of the Galaxy, but that would be one hell of a panel if they did.
