Of all the video games out there right now, there is only one that I have been dying to see made into a movie and that is UbitSoft’s Assassin’s Creed. It has a fantastic story that could be easily adapted for the screen, plus its main character Desmond Miles is a boss and, depending on which game you’ve played, so is his ancestral assassin-the games have been set during the Crusades, the Renaissance and the American Revolution (being released this fall).
What makes this project so much more interesting is that UbiSoft is now going the indie route, Sony was originally going to make the film, and now Michael Fassbender is set to both star as Desmond and produce the film, which will instantly draw a huge audience. If you ask me, he’s a perfect candidate to play both Desmond and whichever Assassin they decide to have him play.
For those that don’t know, Assassin’s Creed follows Desmond who relives his ancestral memories which helps him uncover secrets about the modern version of the Knights Templar and an end of the world prophecy. Most of the video game involves the main character sneaking around killing people which makes for some very cool kill sequences in the game. It will be cool to see this translated to the screen as I’m always interested to see how sci-fi period pieces can be blended together for a cinematic feast.
What are your thoughts on this? Are you excited that Fassbender is set to star as the lead? Let us know in the comments section.
