On July 24 Movie Buzzers had the pleasure of attending a screening of Killer Joe followed by a Q&A session at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. In attendance were stars Matthew McConaughey and Gina Gershon, screenwriter Tracy Letts (who also wrote the original play), and award-winning director William Friedkin. Though the panel was laid back, Friedkin was a bit more animated than his collaborators as he spoke about what drew him to the film (its his second time adapting a play by Letts), what he doesn’t like about current movies, and other key points about filmmaking. McConaughey had a lot to add as well, and surprisingly revealed that he found it a lot harder to make movies like The Wedding Planner than a movie like Killer Joe (however, his explanation makes perfect sense).
My camera didn’t make it until the last few minutes of the Q&A (it lasted longer than I expected — and also longer than the staff at Lincoln Center expected, since they were respectfully trying to get Friedkin to wrap it up) — but it was a great opportunity to get to know some of the thought process behind this very twisted, but very entertaining film! Again, I thought the movie was fantastic, and you can check out my review here!

Special thanks to the Film Society of Lincoln Center for inviting us! You can check out their coverage (with admittedly much better video) here!
