For an event that was highly publicized and talked about, we still don’t have much to go on regarding Kathryn Bigelow‘s latest film Zero Dark Thirty. What we do know is it will follow the events leading up to the assassination of Osama Bin Laden and what the Seal Team 6 experienced leading up to the event. Well we finally get a chance to see what Bigelow has been working on in the first teaser trailer for the film.
The film stars Joel Edgerton, Jessica Chastain, Chris Pratt, Kyle Chandler, Mark Strong, and Jason Clarke. Names that many might not be familiar with now, but remember Jeremy Renner wasn’t a household name before Bigelow casted him in The Hurt Locker, so you might want to get to know these men (and woman)! As I said above the film follows the manhunt for the terrorist leader and ultimately leading up to his death. Does it ruin the experience knowing the outcome of the film before seeing it? Hell no, I think every American will want to see what happened and how everything came into place before the raid on Bin Laden’s compound.
Here is the trailer for the film and after that we will talk a bit about the film and it’s political influence.
So we knew that Bigelow had been working on a “Hunt for Osama” film for a while and she just happened to still be writing when these events took place. Probably for the better because at least the ending will be more satisfying then seeing the words “The Search or Hunt continues”. The interesting thing was that there have been some political outcries regarding the film and that it has been asked by political affiliates that the film be released after the elections so that it won’t suede voters. I for one agree with this and if you don’t think films could have an impact on a presidential race, you are wrong. So instead of a Fall release, the film will hit theaters December 19th, just in time for awards season and right after the presidential election.
Staying on the topic of awards, we know that Bigelow has a collection of Oscars for The Hurt Locker, and if this teaser is any indication of the quality of the film we will see, it can be pretty safe to say, she might be taking home a few more when The Oscars rolls around once more. I’m interested to see if the film will be released internationally or not and to see how the rest of the world will respond to it. I can’t imagine anyone protesting the film or having an issue with it, but you never know, there are some nut jobs out there (Looking at you Westboro).
