Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence has certainly made her mark among the indie crowd with her breakout role in Winter’s Bone, and she’s no stranger to the action blockbusters as seen in the franchises, X-Men: First Class and The Hunger Games. However, the in-demand actress has recently signed on to star in the romantic drama The Ends of the Earth for The Weinstein Company, according to a recent press release.
The movie is based on the real-life relationship between Oklahoma governor / oil baron Ernest Marland and his adopted daughter-turned-wife Lydie, who will be played by Lawrence. As a result, the relationship costs Ernest everything, while Lydie fought for better work conditions for her husband’s business.
While there is no word yet on a potential director or who will be cast to play the older lead male role, we can hope for a strong veteran like a George Clooney or Kevin Spacey since at the time the couple wed, Ernest was in his mid-50s.
Argo writer Chris Terrio has provided the screenplay for the film, which Dylan Sellers of The Weinstein Company hails as “one of the most epic love stories that people have yet to really discover. We knew right away that this script was something special.”
Lawrence can be seen in September in the horror thriller House at the End of the Street. In addition, she has recently wrapped David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook with Bradley Cooper and Robert DeNiro, as well as the Depression-era Serena with Cooper. Lawrence is also scheduled to shoot sequels The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and X-Men: Days of Future Past back-to-back.
