With these two action film superstars appearing in The Expendables 2, which opens this weekend, the smart marketing folks behind these two films released their newest trailers.
The Last Stand trailer is sufficiently awesome, with Arnold Schwarzenegger making quick work of his enemies (with a couple of “I’m too old for this shit” lines thrown in). You also get glimpses of Luis Guzman and Johnny Knoxville in the trailer, who I hope aren’t completely goofy comic relief characters. If the 1990s taught us anything, it’s that movies don’t need comedic sidekicks.
Less successful, but still cool, is the trailer to Sylvester Stallone‘s upcoming movie, Bullet to the Head, which was directed by Walter Hill (The Warriors). There looks like it has some cool action sequences, but the story seems so generic, i.e. the “you killed my partner, so I’m doing one last job of taking you out!” plus “wacky buddy cop partners who don’t understand each other.” I mean the trailer even goes for the same lame “old music” joke that was in Live Free or Die Hard! It definitely reminds me of this old gem from Maddox, even though it isn’t a white cop/black cop comedy. , however, looks jacked, and I hope this is a good role for him since he just didn’t get a fair shake with Conan.
The Last Stand hits theaters on January 18, with Bullet to the Head following on February 1.
