This is tough to write, however,it has been reported that director Tony Scott, younger brother of Ridley Scott, apparently committed suicide earlier today. Multiple outlets are reporting that Scott jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro at 12:35pm yesterday afternoon. The coroner’s department and LA port police reported that he jumped “without hesitation,” and that a letter with contact information was found in his car as well as a suicide note found in his office.
Scott was a fantastic director and gave us such classics as Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop 2, Crimson Tide, Man on Fire as well as numerous other films. Recently, Tony served as a producer on his older brother blockbuster film, Prometheus. Tony had been working on a few different TV series as well as trying to get the ball rolling on Top Gun 2 before his untimely death.
While the contents of the note found in Scott’s office haven’t been released and more than likely won’t be released, there is no telling as to why he would take his life. In the coming days we will hear from his family and possibly might be able to shed some light on his unexpected death. He leaves behind his wife Donna and their twin sons.
Our deepest condolences go out to Tony’s family and hope they find strength in this their darkest hour. Thank you Tony for all you did for the film industry and your contributions to the world.
