Arthur Miller’s classic drama A View from the Bridge is finally coming to the big screen with an all-star cast. Variety reports that the 1955 play is being adapted by Andrew Bovell (Edge of Darkness) and will also star Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) as Eddie‘s wife Beatrice, Mia Wasikowska (Jane Eyre) as young Catherine, Sam Neill (Jurassic Park), and newcomer Sebastian Stan (Black Swan). According to IMDB, the story follows Eddie who is unconsciously in love with his wife’s niece, Catherine, who they have raised since childhood.
Australian-born director, Robert Connolly will be behind the camera, who also directed LaPaglia in Balibo and The Bank. The actor, who acquired the rights shortly after his stint on Broadway, also earned a blessing to make the movie from Miller himself before his passing in 2005. Hollywood Reporter claims that LaPaglia is also producing with Marion Pilowsky (Being Julia ) and Natalie Stevenson (Ink).
Miller’s story recently earned a great deal of press due to its celebrated reincarnation on Broadway last year, starring Liev Schreiber and Scarlett Johansson, who won a Tony for playing Catherine. In 2005, it was reported that Johansson was attached to the film version with LaPaglia, as well as Frances McDormand (Burn After Reading), but nothing ever surfaced from those plans.
Filming for A View from the Bridge will begin in Melbourne and New York in June.
