Last time I checked, I don’t remember anyone ever begging for a movie about the iconic and extrealy popular building block toys, LEGOs, but we are getting one anyways. The film has been brought up before but, to be perfectly honest, I thought people were joking. Sadly this is happening and not only is there a story, we also know who will be voicing four of the characters.
Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures announced today that Chris Pratt, Morgan Freeman, Elizabeth Banks and Will Arnett will all be voicing characters for the film which is simply being called LEGO.
Now with this announcement, we did get more information regarding the story for the film which is as follows:
LEGO follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.
Pratt will be voicing Emmet while Freeman and Banks will be fellow travelers of Emmet, Vitruvius and Lucy. To me this sounds like a huge marketing ploy for LEGO which is fine and they have every right to do a film but I don’t have high hopes for it. Oh and Will Arnett will be voicing Batman. Yeah, not really sure how or why Lego Batman will be in the film, but he supposedly shares a history with Lucy.
The film is being directed by Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller who have also done some script work for the film as well. I know the LEGO video games are a huge hit and people spend millions of dollars on LEGO’s and the little figurines every year, but a movie!?!?! Come on Man! How long until a Lincoln Log film or a K’nex …. I should stop before I give the studios ideas.
LEGO is set for theaters February 28,2014.
