Well it sure as hell took long enough. Today, the first theatrical trailer for Tom Tykwer and Andy and Lana Wachowski’s ambitious adaptation, Cloud Atlas, has been released. Now, despite my curiosity and excitement about the film, I refused to watch the the six minute trailer that was released over the summer because, to be honest, that’s too much footage for me to see before a movie is released and more than just the taste that I usually need.
Cloud Atlas, which is based on David Mitchell’s popular novel, stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Ben Whishaw, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant, Susan Sarandon, and Bae Doona in a movie where they each play a variety of characters in different time periods and story lines that are somehow connected over the stretch of time that it all takes place.
The trailer itself is pretty spectacular and shows off all the characters, gives a good sense of the story and gives us a really good idea as to what the film will be like visually as well as how ambitious it actually is. It’ll be curious to see how smooth the transitions between the characte
“Cloud Atlas” explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. Action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future.
