I had only recently learned about director Andy Muschietti’s upcoming thriller, Mama, recently while doing some research on Jessica Chastain. When I saw that she was going to be in some sort of horror thriller I figured it would be one of those cases where a good actress does a mediocre scary film just to knock the genre off of their list of film types to star in. After watching the trailer, I can rest easy knowing that it most likely won’t be anything like that.
With short black hair, the complete opposite of her long red locks, Jessica Chastain stars alongside Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Megan Charpentier, and Isabelle Nellsse in a movie that is sure to be very creepy and very suspenseful. Based off of Spanish director Andres Muschietti’s short film which was very well received, I think we can expect this to be a refreshing entry to the creepy child thriller genre as the trailer is quick to showcase the little ones along with their demons that accompany them on their journey.
Take a look at the trailer and synopsis for Mama below and let us know what you think.
Guillermo del Toro presents Mama, a supernatural thriller that tells the haunting tale of two little girls who disappeared into the woods the day that their parents were killed. When they are rescued years later and begin a new life, they find that someone or something still wants to come tuck them in at night.
Mama is set to be released in the US on January 18, 2013
