Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have just announced that Zach Snyder‘s Man of Steel will open in 3D and IMAX June14tth next year. While I’m all for having Superman fly right into my face, it seems this won’t be the 3D film that many would be expecting.
The announcement came yesterday that the studios have officially decided to move forward with Man of Steel in 3D and IMAX. While some may be very excited for this announcement, I want to warn you, it might not be worth your money. The film wasn’t shot using either 3D or IMAX cameras much less film, which sadly means that the we will end up with a post conversion for both. There is still some hope, because there is still a lot of time before the film hits which means the proper rendering can take place potentially and we won’t end up with something like the Clash of the Titans post conversion 3D disaster.
Snyder did address the issues of the post conversion in the release and said while the film wasn’t shot in 3D they did keep the possibility in mind when shooting some of the scenes in the off chance they did post conversion. He also had the following to say regarding the announcement:
Anticipating how audiences today embrace 3D, we designed and photographed the movie in a way that would allow Man of Steel to captivate those movie goers, while respecting fans who prefer a more traditional cinematic experience. We’ve taken great measures to ensure the film and the story come first, and 3D is meant as an enhancement.
So do you buy what Snyder is saying? Is it worth the extra money to see the film in either post conversion formats or will you just see it in 2D?
