If there weren’t enough reasons to check out Peter Jackson’s highly anticipated The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (High Frame Resolution 3D aka 48 fps, trailer/prologue for Star Trek Into Darkness, first film in the Hobbit trilogy, etc. etc.) now we have confirmation of one more reason why you need to check the film out. SUPERMAN!
That’s right, Zach Snyder has confirmed via an interview with MTV News that there will be a new trailer for Man of Steel before The Hobbit and it will be pretty crazy. What that means exactly is anyone’s guess at this point. Here is what he told MTV:
I can’t wait for ‘The Hobbit,’ so it will be fun to see our crazy ‘Man of Steel’ trailer and then enjoy ‘The Hobbit’ because that’s going to be great. It just feels like a fun Christmas thing to do, drag the whole family out for that action.
Not only did they get Snyder to spill about the trailer, they also got him to open up and talk a bit about the film and the still unofficially named villain played by Michael Shannon.
Shannon is great, he has such great enthusiasm and dedication constantly. You can imagine that you could get actors who go, ‘Oh right, it’s Zod, it’s not 100 percent serious,’ or [you can play it] slightly with a wink, there is none of that with him. His effort is to make it realized and to understand this character and what he has to go through, so you have that on one side and you have Henry, who basically is Superman, on the other side and that dynamic.
Yes, I know everyone and their mom has known for quite sometime that Shannon was playing Zod however if you look back at all the interviews Snyder has done thus far and even the panel during SDCC he has never once confirmed that Shannon was Zod until now! Snyder continued on regarding the craftsmanship Shannon took and embracing the role and how serious the role of Zod was to both Shannon and Snyder.
I was just incredibly fortunate to play with those guys who really were giving all they had to bring a level of commitment to the scenes they have together so that audiences will get an opportunity to really have their heroes taken seriously. As serious as I was taking it, and I don’t mean that from a depressing kind of way but from a, ‘This is important and fun and needs to be given the respect that it deserves,’ from that perspective it was so exciting to watch them drink the Kool-Aid of that concept and go all the way.
I can’t imagine what sort of craziness will be shown during the trailer, but hopefully it will be more along the lines as to what was shown during SDCC. If I remember correctly the trailer was around 2 and a half minutes give or take but was much darker than what the teaser trailer showed.
As we get closer to the June 14th release date, my anticipation for this film grows more and more! Hopefully there will be some viral marketing for the film because lets be honest, who doesn’t love some good viral marketing and events to attend!
