No matter what role Hugh Jackman plays people still know him as one very iconic person, Wolverine. We know that Jackman has been working on the sequel to his X-Men: Origins film, The Wolverine for many months now and it seems that he will be staying in character for a bit longer.
It has just been confirmed that that not only will we get to see him as Wolverine in 2013 for the origins sequel, we will now see him in 2014 as well in the X-Men First Class Sequel, X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Jackman had probably one of the greatest cameos in quite sometime in X-Men First Class, but director Bryan Singer wanted more and so he took to twitter to make the announcement.
I would officially like to welcome @realhughjackman to the cast of #Xmen Days of Future Past. Very excited!More to come…
— Bryan Singer (@BryanSinger) December 19, 2012
While this is exciting news, it has been rumored for a while now and Jackman will now rejoin his fellow cast members Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan, who will both be reprising their roles as the adult versions of Professor X and Magneto.
In case you are wondering how these three characters will factor into the story line, here is a brief description of what happens in the comics with the same title.
The storyline alternates between present day, in which the X-Men fight Mystique’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and a future timeline caused by the X-Men’s failure to prevent the Brotherhood from assassinating Senator Robert Kelly. In this future universe, Sentinels rule the United States, and mutants live in internment camps. The present-day X-Men are forewarned of the possible future by a future version of their teammate Kitty Pryde, whose mind traveled back in time and possessed her younger self to warn the X-Men.
Now expect some changes to take place between the comic storyline and the screenplay that Simon Kinberg has written up. In the comics, Wolverine plays a very key role, it will be interesting to see how much Singer will use him in the film. We do know that most of the original cast from First Class will be returning, which includes James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is set to start production this spring with an anticipated release date of July 18,2014.
