It seems as if all the trailers for films I really want to see next year are coming out all at once, probably because the end of the world hasn’t happened and those Mayan jokers finally got the laugh they were waiting 2000 years for. In a tale as old as Vegas, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone pits the highly successful old school magicians, Burt and Anton, against a new school rival with David Blaine style street magic who is slowly starting to make them irrelevant to audiences. Put simply, it’s Steve Carell and Steve Buscemi versus Jim Carrey in a comedic magical battle for the ages. Tack on a supporting cast of Olivia Wilde, Alan Arkin, James Gandolfini, and Jay Mohr and you’ve got yourself some potential comedic gold. I”m really excited for this film and the trailer below justifies why I should remain excited until the film’s March 15th release date.
Superstar magicians Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) have ruled the Las Vegas strip for years, raking in millions with illusions as big as Burt’s growing ego. But lately the duo’s greatest deception is their public friendship, while secretly they’ve grown to loathe each other. Facing cutthroat competition from guerilla street magician Steve Gray (Jim Carrey), whose cult following surges with each outrageous stunt, even their show looks stale. But there’s still a chance Burt and Anton can save the act—both onstage and off—if Burt can get back in touch with what made him love magic in the first place.
