Film geeks excluded, most people don’t realize that District 9 director Neill Blomkamp is releasing his follow-up sci-fi film next year titled Elysium. Most people loved District 9 and it was one of my favorite films of that year but the reason nobody knows much about this film is because it’s been shrouded in secrecy. Minus a handful of official still we have nothing to go on but the synopsis but at least now we have an image of cast member other than Matt Damon.
This time we get our first look at Sharlto Copley as Kruger (below), a bounty hunter tracking down Matt Damon to prevent him from reaching the wealthy society of Elysium located on a space station above earth. I gotta say, well done on the make-up. If you showed me just the picture and asked me who the actor was I probably couldn’t tell you, he is practically unrecognizable and most definitely looks like a man on a mission.
Elysium is set to hit theaters on August 9th and also stars Jodie Foster, Wagner Moura, Alice Braga and Diego Luna.
In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
