2013 is still young and just getting started, however the guys over at Mondo have hit the ground running and don’t look to be slowing down anytime soon. So far Mondo has released two prints (Jurassic Park and V for Vendetta), one vinyl ( The Deadly Spawn) and One VHS (Beyond the Black Rainbow). Today they will be dropping two more prints, both for two very iconic Steven Spielberg films.
The first print is by Mike Mitchell, who is making a huge splash in the limited paper community right now. He was given the task of doing a print for E.T The Extra Terrestrial, and at first glance one might think the print is photo straight from the film.

Printed by D&L Screenprinting. $45
The second print that will be dropping today at a random time, will be for the first official Blockbuster in Cinema history, Jaws. The iconic film got a not so iconic make up by the very popular Laurent Durieux. Now I will say the Jaws print won’t be for everyone because it is a very different approach to the film than what we have ever seen, it’s the fact that Jaws is actually not in the print, sort of. Check it out below and then lets discuss what exactly we are looking at.

So as you can see a very different approach was taken with the print, however there are a ton of hidden gems in the print. For example we have the Black fin in the umbrella which represents the shark, we have the life guard tower, the dog, Brody’s kids, etc. Mondo did discuss a little bit about the print and their licenses for the the film via their newsletter:
A little behind the scenes for you all… we’ve had the JAWS license for almost two years. We were very excited to get it, but then the realization set in that it would be tough to come close to the original as it’s one of the best if not THE best theatrical poster ever made. JAWS is so iconic in every sense and it was VERY intimidating working on the title. Enter: Laurent Durieux. We are gigantic fans of him and were like kids at Christmas when we got this image in our inbox. The details in the poster are many and we think it conveys the “calm before the storm” very nicely. Without a doubt, Laurent is one of our favorite artists to work with and one of the most talented illustrators working today. You can see detail photos of JAWS over on our blog right HERE.And to officially make tomorrow Steven Spielberg day, we have Mike Mitchell’s great E.T. poster. This is the last E.T. poster we’re going to make for a while and I’m glad we’re ending on a good note. This poster is so warm and just makes me feel good when I look at it. I’m so happy with both of the posters Mike and Laurent turned in. I hope you all enjoy them, too. Please follow us on Twitter for the on sale announcement. These posters will be available online at a random time on Thursday, January 17th.
