With Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead reboot set to rain blood in theaters this Friday and talk of Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell bringing Ash back for Army of Darkness 2, it doesn’t seem likely that the Evil Dead franchise is going away anytime soon. What makes things interesting is that it seems like a general idea with regards to the franchise’s future has been discussed and that we might see a merger of Raimi’s films and Alvarez’s new films in one final and epic picture.
This past weekend at WonderCon, Alvarez (reported by ComingSoon) had this to say about the future of the franchise:
Assuming the film does well at the box office, Alvarez says that he’s got big plans for the franchise. He’d like to make a sequel to this one while Sam Raimi moves forward with Army of Darkness 2. Then, both worlds would combine for a final, seventh film.
“I think seven is a nice number,” Campbell grinned.
I caught the film as SXSW (read my review here) and had a blast watching it. During the film there were a few hints that this new film could potentially exist in the same timeline as Raimi’s films which would make the possibility of a merger feasible. Knowing this, I ask that everyone go out and support this great remake so that we can get more Bruce Campbell/Sam Raimi awesomeness and more Evil Dead for all those that love horror.
